If you link an armory of your character, someone or some scammer that couldn't scam you, can notify blizzard send the saved page and than they will investigate your account and if the account is traded more than once and they CAN see the different IP's...they will banned your account with not notifications, I suggest, if you want people to see your gear just say something like this....
Selling a level 70 rogue 10k health 1092 attack power...reply if interested or w/e...and when you get that person individually you can link him/her the gear now, its the same concept, however if you do it through AIM or E-mails you can simply say, that wasn't me...they will not investigate your account, it would be rarely, also make sure your E-mail is different on this site than the one on your Blizzard account...

Couldn't you just say "I didn't post that, someones trying to get me banned"? Then theres not much they can do is there?

theres stipulation everywhere in this case, and you can fight it all you want, bottom line is its their game.

it's funny though, a few years back I used to think Blizzard monitors ebay and the other major account selling/trading sites ready to pounce, since even without armory links they should be able to deduce which account that's being sold with the amount of information provided sometimes (and with their resources) and then ban them without prejudice. guess not after all.
