has anyone here been successful in endgame w/ a bought account?

Hey guys.

I understand and have known for a while that bought accounts are by and large, frowned upon in the FFXI community. And most likely most other MMORPGs. I myself have a bought account and pretty much found that out the hard way. Just recently moved servers, and changed my chara name. I applied to 2 endgame shells, I told the first one that I bought my account but that I already had extensive experience of playing FFXI (which is true). They didn't respond to me. The second shell, to whom I didn't mention I bought my acc, also didn't respond. I found out that the first shell are pretty hostile towards RMT, while the second shell are widely regarded as already having a lot of bought accounts in there LS. So I'm not too sure why the second LS didn't at least respond to me. I thought, well if they already have bought accounts in the shell, they must be cool with it. Guess I was wrong.

So I'm just wondering, for you guys who play or have played bought accounts, what do you generally do? Is it best not to admit that you bought your account? Do you know any convincing stories that explain why you are moving servers?

Back in the day, before I decided to buy an account, my problem was that I didn't have enough 75s, or good gear, or sky and sea access. And I was always dirt poor. Buying an account took care of all those things. But it seems that's not enough to get anywhere in endgame. People seem to place a lot of importance on your experience. With respect, I don't think it matters if you've killed Faf once or 200+ times, the method is the same. OP to Zi'Tah, jog through Tree, camp and hope your bot outclaims the other bot. The actual fight is so easy experience doesn't even matter. Far as I'm concerned HNM is 90% about getting the claim. Also they expect you to have a convincing background, and I'm not too good at lying.

Anyway, just looking for tips from seasoned account buyers on how you navigate through the minefield, so to speak

Hmmm, I wouldn't say killing Faf 1 times is the same as killing it 200, you should be at the top of your game for each job, shit can go wrong you need to be able to rectify, experience is everything as far as end-game is concerned in FFXI, 1 cock-up from 1 person can make the whole thing go wrong. Personally I hated the whole HNM thing and there are much better things to be doing in FFXI now atleast, with Salvage, InHerJar, new ZNMs and crap like that, however some people are set in their ways, you can comfortably play the game now at a high level of the game without having to be a "1337orz" LS. There are usually decent LS's that don't do HNM but do everything else and that is where you should atleast start if you plan to "progress" into the grind of HNM, get a little rep going, best way to get noticed by a HNM is just being a meripo and get talking to someone and hopefully they will give you a good word if you apply.

I don't think end-game LS particularly care about bought accounts, I know my LS didn't when I played however, a random person applying with a bought account or an unknown account will make them question your reliability.

In conclusion don't run before you can walk, you will probably find you'll enjoy playing alot more out of a HNM-hardened linkshell, most of the people that grind HNM's have no life (I don't care what anyone says...its true.) Less pressure=more fun, and thats why you play in the first place right?

Uhm you can buy a high level account and act like you have owned the account since day one. I don't know why you would be stupid enough to giveaway that you have bought the account (not only does that look bad and you get blacklisted from many good linkshells, but you can also get reported).

When I try learning a new job etc - if that's a problem I'm having with a new account that I buy - I ask people and they help me. What I do is say I quit for a year and am just coming back. It works everytime. I get help and no sh:t from anyone.

I have bought and played on a few different servers/HNM shells, the major thing is to just say you transferred with a buddy or whatever.. don't be too elaborate with your story. If you have seen Ocean's 11 where Matt Daemon had to convince Andy Garcia that he was from the NGC... it's similar to that. Crack some jokes but don't rush into it.

However, there are the shells out there that will ask what server you came from etc and actually make a mule and talk to your previous LS members. Kinda crazy but I guess that's the way it works.

Kendrah1 a while back made a great point about RMT's. He said it was like porn. No one publicly admits it but everyone watches it.

Also for a little while you might want to lay low so to speak. Get a little rep for yourself then apply to the big shells. It might take you holding your tongue but in the end you have a better chance on getting what you want in a HNM/End shell.

I have been playing FFXI since NA release. I have bought over 3 accounts so far. I know just as much maybe even more than most people about Endgame and I have done it many many times. Including Nidhogg,Bahamut v2,Dynamis,Sky,Sea etc. My secret? Yes I play bought accounts but do I tell anyone? No, lol. That is one of the most biggest mistakes you could have ever done. Even letting one person know is bad b/c eventually it will get out and no one will take you seriously. Most ppl who say bought account users are dumb or retarded is actually so far from the truth in most cases. Some of the best players I have come accross open up to me they actually bought that account. You have to have knowledge to know what you are looking for in an account.

I could tell you anything about any job and give you correct feedback on how to play it and what gear you should be wearing / macro'ing in. But the secret? I am most likely playing a bought account. Like the person above said you simply have to ACT like it was yours from day one.

Just mentioning you bought an account shows a lack of game knowledge to begin with. And HNM isn't about just getting the claim in no way. The way you talk is why you were turned down I'm sure. You said you were a exp player but you never had sky even? People are gonna suspect something is wrong when your on a pimped out toon and have to ask how to get to Sky. Or linkshell /tells you to gather together Turtle is up, and you have to ask what that is. lol Best to have wiki up at all times.

Thanks for the replies. I would like to clarify a few things. First of all I bought the account over six months ago. Only just found about this forum recently and it seemed a good place to look for advice. To respond to what Wizzar said, I respect your views but I disagree with you. Why exactly is experience so important for Fafnir? I have actually killed him and got the title. I know what is required to kill him. So why do I need to have killed him 200+ times to be credible? I don't need to ask how to get Sky because I know, and have done enough runs to know my way around. I also don't need to ask what turtle is - it's aspidochelone, ground king that spawns in valley of sorrows, lottery spawn of adamantoise after 3 days. Drops the highly sought after Dalmatica abjuration which is still a pipedream for me. Also drops the adamantoise egg for BB quest.

Before I bought the account, I had pretty much no endgame experience. I should have stated that. I did however have experience of playing FFXI - just very little endgame. I had experience of leveling 1-75 but that was all. That was one of the main reasons I bought an account. So I could actually have a shot at endgame. To cut a long story short, I began playing FFXI in January 2004. I was 13 and had no prior experience of MMORPGs. Played for a few months, ended up quitting. Came back in 2005. Started a new account. Ended up quitting that one as well. In 2006 I came back as my original character. During that time I actually got a 75 job of my own. When I got to 75 though I basically hit a wall. No one would help me get through CoP missions. I managed to get Sky but it was a nightmare. I was stuck sitting in Whitegate. I subsequently sold that account.

Anyway, 2008 rolled around and I had the money to be able to buy a decent account. I found one that seemed like a bargain. It had CoP, Zilart, and TOAU missions all complete, assault rank captain, decent amount of merits and 4 75s. Also had about 5 mil worth in gear. Not amazing or anything but a decent entry-level endgame account in my opinion. Since then I've added a further 4 75s and outfitted most of the jobs with pretty good - albeit AH only - gear.

With all that said, I'm really focused on HNM's more than anything because, well I actually find it fun camping them. Also there is gear from them that I need. People say new gear has come out that usurps HNM gear - i'm not really sure about that. Ridill, Black Belt, Dalmatica and Adaberk are still highly sought after and haven't been replaced I don't think.

Edit: I'd just like to reiterate my appreciation for your responses. I am actually reassured that people out there have bought accounts and been successful. That's given me some hope at least.

It angers shells to no end when a RDM or some other job is cure bombing behind fafnir and doesnt know to stand on his feet LOL. However you seem to know a lot. Just check up on outpost warps and other stuff. Id work on WoTG im pretty sure there will be another endgame element in there you need to complete before you can get those~
