Woodworking 100+2... What now!?

I recently came across an account with 100+2 Woodworking and honestly, I'm stumped as to what I should do to make gil.

I've tried making HQ staves, with very little success. (1/14...)
And it seems like ammunitions, etc. are popular and fast, but sell for a loss if you sell stacks of quivered items.
From what it seems like, I could be making Cursed Kabuto/Togi/Haidate and lose less gil per NQ than staves.

So, I'm not really sure where to post this, but I figured this would be a good start.

If anyone has any input or information or useful links, let me know. It's not like I'm going to be invading your server or anything.

You won't make fortunes on anything really that you buy directly from the auction house because HQ's are a fixed random number (not true random, its based on statistics/others).

What you're best of doing is farming stuff. Staves would take to long to garden, so they're not really you're best choice unless you start now and keep your eye on them, even then you may not get what you wish for.

If you want profits, you're going to have to farm.

Unluckily though, they're FAR FAR better ways to make money than any crafts can provide. Unless you can get the meterials dirt cheap (from ls or something that do hnm) or free completely.

I see, thank you. I actually just got done with a marathon reading sessions about crafting and HQ and Tiers, blah, blah, blah on the FFXIclopedia. It was very informative. Unfortunately, I'm so busy with college and work that I don't have time to join a LS that is very serious with the game. I just kind of wanted something to do with my crafting skills when I have some spare time.

I'll have a look around for anything you can do cheaply that add on (like alchemy whore out silent oils cuse they're so profitable lol, and beeswax). I have WW60. But can't go higher cuse I wanna max out other craft. What server you on?

you need woodworking 100+3 to break the next tier for HQ staves. At 103+3 (106) you are 31 levels over cap and that means the 3rd tier which is 25% HQ chance. gather guild points!

Neat! I read about that, too, tonight.
I read though that (read, mind you, this isn't proven):

Tier 1 ~10%
Tier 2 ~30%
Tier 3 ~50%

I gave it a whirl on Maple Tables, which capped at 16 I think.
Since I'm 100+2, I was well over the 51+ to reach Tier 3:

HQ results:

NQ results:
10

Breaks:
3

So, I guess it was about ~50%.

When I was doing staves, the first 9 were NQ, then I got 1 HQ.
Perhaps that's my Tier 1 kicking in?
I wonder if this means that statistically I would have to HQ one at that point?
I don't really know.
The next 5 after that were NQ also.

This did disprove my belief that facing certain directions has any effect. If it would have given me any bonus to my WW skill whatsoever, I would've been at 106, no? So then I should've HQ'd more than 1 staff in my mind.

But anyway, I'll dwell on it some more. I'm tired.

it seems each type of synth has its own HQ rate,

at one time i had a 100 alchemy act.... so i tried to HQ a lvl 5ish synth, (nin tools) which sell for like 1,000g/stack to NPC, i figured quick & easy to get 1 stack @ 50% HQ rate in a few synths......

HQ rate wasnt what i thought it should be on just about anyday of the game week / moon phase ; ;

armour seems to have highest HQ rate, though it may very by each synth,


for 100+2 wood, tools would be good 4 u

I would wait for HQ staffs until you are 100+3 only... Tier 3 Synth starts at 100+3 aka 31 levels over cap (with HQ synth help). With 100+3 I can easily crank out 3-4 HQ's in 10 synths. Havent had too much luck with cursed gear. although i have only tried about 10 crafts in total and only HQ'd haidate.
