Will SE automatically Ban

If I buy an account which will obviously require me to change the payment method, password, and billing information, will this be an instant flag? I would hate to but one and get banned after shilling the cash!

Very good question.
I wonder if anyone would stick around (after being rather upset from the situation) that could possibly share their stories. Since I am also looking to acquiring a character since mine is way past the time to be retrieved. Such as... those of you who have purchased an XI account and frequent this forums, how long have you had your purchased account with no problems? If anyone here was banned for reasons unknown (and did not participate in anything illegal in-game) and had the suspicion they were banned FOR buying an account it'd be appreciated to hear something about it.

To answer your question: Usually they'll never do anything to you. Like 90% of the time. I've owned so many accounts... dozens and dozens and I've changed billing information, personal information, moved servers, bought gil and I've never been questioned or had anything ever done to me. In all the years that I've played, I've had ZERO run-ins with any GM or personnel from SE.

The only way that you're going to lose your account is if you start telling people that you did, in fact, buy it. Or if you openly admit that you buy gil from disreputable RMT sources. Seriously... you have to be very dumb to lose your account. Don't use 3rd-party software, do not ever trust anyone with your log-in information, change it ASAP after buying an account and just keep your trap shut until you hop servers and even then, you should keep quiet about it anyway.

The last way I can imagine, which has happened (and makes the sellers look bad) works like this:

-Seller A (Scammer) sells the account fully knowing that he will repossess the account via SE Account Reclamation process. This usually can only come from someone who is the OO of an account. The reclamation process is very information sensitive so much that they ask questions that only the OO would know. It would be extremely rare that anyone other than the OO would be able to reclaim, EVEN with Registration Codes.

-Buyer A (Buyer A and future Seller B) buys the account.

--then--

-Seller A (Scammer, remember?) initiates the first contact to SE about his account being stolen. The account is locked down, the buyer loses all access and his money. The account is eventually returned to Seller A and he either keeps it or sells it again. Know that after the first time, he cannot reclaim it again.

--or--

-Buyer A (Who is now Seller B) decides he no longer wants the account and sells it to someone else. He is not the OO and he is unaware of the OO's plan to reclaim the account.
He sells the account to Buyer B. Buyer B plays for awhile then loses access to the account, etc., etc. because Seller A (Noted above.) reclaims the account. This makes it look like Buyer A is a scammer and a cheater; When in reality he had nothing to do with this.

It does. It's quite the lengthy process. I think maybe the only way I could possibly ever trust buying an account now would be to ask for the original e-mail associated with the account too. There's quite a bit to it and either side can seemingly get a bad end of the deal as far as I've read. ;/

Yeah, I'm quite aware of how that crap with the OO stealing it back works, as it's happened to me. I'm looking to purchase an account only from a reputable seller so I can avoid that this time.
