"New" Jobs

Having only recently reactivated my FFXI account, I never bothered to get WotG. I'm just curious what the new jobs are like (dancer/scholar), and how they compare to the other jobs. Is it worth considering WotG just for these jobs? More specifically can these new jobs actually hold their own in the intense merit parties at the end game? I remember playing some time back class balance was always a serious issue... I'm assuming SE has fixed this with time?

Intense merit parties haven't changed. You grab 3-4 DDs, 1-2 bards, a rdm/healer.

I take that back.


My best merit PT was one I set up on an idea: SAM SAM SAM BRD BRD SCH, but I was PL'ing myself from outside with a WHM75 for Haste. I grabbed 24k/hr with that setup, but damn it was fun. Stoneskinga is amazing (from Scholar)

Dancer is decent as a mainjob, but is the best solo support job for melees. Scholar has huge potential, and in my opinion is an offensive version of the red mage. All in all, both good jobs, and imo better start than the last set of jobs, but still need some work.

SCH are still under used IMO, hopefully SE will buff them a little more, and we will see whm's start complaning about useless-ness in end game XD

I think both jobs are way overpowered. Dancer is amazingly nice, since it can heal without mana and he also does a little of damage, however It is not meant to be main healing job althought I have seen doing it just fine. About sch, I'm very surprised of the power of this job, can heal or DD with almost no mp cd. So I think SE have introduced 2 jobs that are in my point of view more powerfull than the old jobs.

SCH is superior to the BLM imo. You have to the ability to nuke T4s for cast the cast time and MP cost with a self-refresh, then enfeeb for DOT all while wearing sexy skirts, cant go wrong!

Best solo using the new jobs appears to be paladin/Dancer because of the ability to still do damage, get that mana tap from your weapon and also cure yourself mp free with huge boosts to chr and dex from /dnc, pld/dnc pretty much pwn in campaigns, its all i see along side sam/dnc. Something to check out, i myself havent unlocked either, was working on bard to 75 first (61 atm)

Some tests that a few people have done have shown intense mp efficiency in soloing on scholar, actually ending up with more dmg/mp used than blm, either soloing exp or things like soling Ix'Aerns.
