Restarting in EQ

I am debating whether it is best to restart from scratch in EQ or to buy an account. I am worried about account security in buying a used one from someone else, but it just could take years to get a level 80 (soon 85) character with max AA. Its a very difficult decision. Anyone started a new EQ character recently and having any luck making their way through the game?

Didnt they just make it easier to gain AA up to a certian point to help people catch up?

I fully restarted Everquest about 3 months ago. As of now, my personal restart account has a lvl 80 magician with 900 AA, and a few lvl 30-50 alts. Around 1m plat and is doing pretty decent on gear. No powerleveling / buying of plat was necessary to accomplish this. I work 50 hours a week and go to school full time, so I only play 5 or so hours a week. They really have made leveling much easier.

Hmm... I have an existing account with like 8 years of vet AA... maybe should give it a try then. really feels daunting =)

Starting from scratch and leveling up to a decent lvl for playing seems to be easier now than earlier, especially if you mostly stay in the hotzones.

But it still takes alot of time and effort.

So if you are already an experienced player it could be nice to buy an account with high lvl chars and enter the best part of the game instantly.

On the other hand, every experienced player knows how troublesome it can be to group with someone who has no experience in playing their high lvl character.

I would also point out that having friends on your server who are willing to help / buff / let you tag along on good xp content / play with their alts can really help with the leveling. If you can, check if you're friends from prior play time are still around or join a higher playtime xp oriented guild and start making friends by trying to help them as much as possible.

I would say if you are gonna buy a character. Create one of same type and play at least to level 60 and get epic 1.So you will know how to play that character it's strength's and weaknesses and if you like it.Dead giveaway of bought character is high level and not knowing how to play it. Most guilds wont take you if they know you bought character,mainly cause of this fact.

its so easy to level in EQ now

but yeah take this guys advice. this game is so old and established that you will look like an ebayer when you dont know what people are talking about. hell, even LFG and someone asks you to come to RSS... going to look very suspicious when you dont know how to get there and you're level 70

Definatley give it a scratch run first;

EQ is nowhere near as difficult as it was before Luclin expansion...not even close.

Yeah it it is way easier. Group content has the stats of raid content pre TSS and almost as good as TSS raid stuff.
