Key requirement lifted for older content in EQ1.

Thought those looking for a character might like to know this.

Many keyed zones from the Ruins of Kunark, Scars of Velious, Shadows of Luclin, Planes of Power, Gates of Discord, Omens of War, Depths of Darkhollow, and Prophecy of Ro have had their key/flag requirements modified. All players that have obtained the key/flag will still be allowed entry into the zones, as will players that have met minimum level requirements for the zones. The zones and minimum level requirements are as follows:

Still not sure if I'm happy about the lift or not. Kinda takes away from those who did alot of legwork to get flagged.

well the thing is those flags are pretty easy to do now with level 80 and all.

So it shouldnt make much difference if flag requirement is there or not because reaching the required level is harder now a days that getting the flag itself in some cases

For those of us who worked to get our keys over the years, yeah it kinda sucks to see them handed to anyone of the right level. However some keys like back in Luclin for example, would take to much work in to many zones for a new player to get for what would basically be gear they wouldn't ever use (I know there are key TS mod or clickie items people still want from those zones). It's kind of sad that they will never know the head banging on the wall as they experience the frustration that was Uqua, or Queen Sendaii (if not using strats). But as said at level 80, if you use or have a strat already, these are usually easy encounters. Well.. maybe not Queen Sendaii she's still a pain.

The good though is new players who don't have these keys can now go to these zones with other players... No more, "Hey we are going to go farm aug's in Anguish are you flagged?". Though we used to do that with a Cleric, Ranger, Shadow Knight and Shaman team, so it's not like it takes alot of people to do it. It also helps any returning player out there.

The big thing about this though is if you are looking to buy a level 80 character, you only need to worry about any flag requirements you want to have after PoR.

Its all about sony luring more customers in. Without those roadblocks they can capture more revenue and keep the game afloat longer. Can't believe its been almost 10 years. I playes from 99 till 2005 too. Big chunk of life there lol.

I actually though this meant you could play older EverQuest areas without needing a cd key, so essentially a free account, which...given the current state of things, doesn't sound like a bad idea.

It's just a real shame you can't play EQ like it was before the Luclin expansion, on the old game engine.
