Maple Story Exploits?

So I heard a friend of mine discussing with another individual how he got banned from Maple Story for hacking. Apparently he was using third party software to hack into the game. I wasn't aware that Maple Story had such exploits. He obviously was caught, but only temporarily banned from the game.

I'm just wondering if anyone here plays Maple Story? I'd like to know how the game is, and perhaps even hear some user experiences of hackers inside the game. I know when I was playing Final Fantasy XI, I used to absolutely hate when people were using hacks and bots to gain massive amounts of gil (which they later sold on the internet causing the virtual marketplace to become extremely expensive, so most players actually had to result in purchasing gil online with real money to buy stuff in-game with virtual currency).
