I usually say toon because everyone does, But avatar is good. I'm using that for now on.

I don't and never have called them toons. Sounds too cartoonish.

I've always preferred char. Toon reminds me too much of cartoon whereas character is more like a person in a story.

Lol... It's a Char! But I'm sure I've probably used toon from time to time, as it's so common to see while playing MMOs now.
