Age of Conan: Real Potential

So recently I have been hearing alot of bad reputation for this game, which , in my opinion, was wrongly judged.

For one, this game is drastically different from alot of other MMO's out there. I recently tried the WAR beta and in all honesty, it looks and feels alot like WoW.

For me, the combat system is really something that seems to separate this game from the rest of the pack, giving it the potential of being successful like WoW.

Lets talk about the combat system, we are actually introduced to a combat system that requires some "skill" (if you will). Melee classes have to not only be in range for an attack to land, they also have to go through a sequence of button combos to execute the combo. Movement is also a very large part of the combat in AoC, you can hit all your combo buttons, but if you miss the last hit, then nothing is going to hit.

As for casters, theres something called a line of sight, yes, all of their spells are a click and hit type system, but the enemy also has to be in their line of sight for the spell to hit.

Of course, there is alot more to the game, but for those who have gotten bored of the WoW-type Mmos, AoC is definitely worth a try.

i heard this game was good, but went to poop after massive amounts of people power leveled and now just run around ganking people.

In the beginning I couldn't let this game go because of graphics, etc. - but I stopped at level 40, simply because it got too tireing and it was hard to find some quests to do (and grinding really sucks there). Besides that I don't think it had the same social oppotunities as WoW has.

This game failed in my eyes, due to being very incomplete.

The beginning 20 levels were great, with voiceovers, cutscenes and the like. After that, it got uber repetitive and boring, and there was no real end-game content.

Funcom also keeps breaking their words, and people like a company they can trust.

The first and foremost problem with AoC is that it's a pure cookie cutter.

In the beginning it was hailed as revolutionary. After playing enough BETA, you could see that was clearly untrue. Then you tried to give it benefit of the doubt, while still in BETA, that it would at least be evolutionary. Unfortunatly, that was not the case either.

In the end we got a clone MMO, that has (debatable) the best visuals, and that's about it.

And to make matters worse, the developers are running around like chicken's with their heads cut off, trying to accomodate and appease a bunch of teenage emo pvp players, who keep whining about getting 'ganked' and not enough 'class balancing.'

S T O P

"Class balancing" is the bane of every MMO that ever existed, and these twits are already doing it in the first week of retail launch; and that's pretty much of all they've been doing ever since, continously screwing up the already flawed mechanics even more (rather than going back and fixing the issue..) and 'breaking' things in the process.

They made a huge mistake, by forcing all changes bestowed upon PVP, to also affect PVE servers.



I could go on and on, however despite it's issues, I've gotten the most fun out of it compared to every other MMO since the original EQ and or EQOA on Ps2, which says a lot, as there have been many in between.

My friend bought this game and gave it to me to try out. I let it sit on my desk for about a week before I finally got around to installing it. While I was installing it, he called me up and said he uninstalled it. Too many bugs and he couldn't level up because he just kept getting PK'ed all the time hahaha.

Is that all they do on the game is run around killing lower lvls?
That sux So do they get any EXP from killing lower levels or are they just being jerks?

This is explicitly why I didn't roll on a PVP server.

I do play other venues such as CS:S and COD4 to quench my bloodlust. For a nice MMO experience however, I rolled on a non PVP server, just for peace of mind.

The game was great the first few months, (I actually gave it 4-5 months! to get better). I got to 80 after about a month after release, andstarted PVP and PVE endgame, and it was so buggy it wasn't even funny. It was just so horrible, and boring.. Everyone just exploited everything cause of the bugs, and quit.

The graphics were great, and the combat system was different.. But besides that, not worth it at all. Especially with all the class "balancing" it ruined a lot of classes,and the game. It has great potential, but I guess FC doesn't see it, since they are failing.
