i think he hit the nail on the head, ffxi is so great because of the story, ppl are so obsessed about getting the gear they forget to enjoy the story, i mean 90% of the players including myself spamed CS's in order to get mission done that night etc to get there rajas/tamas back in the day faster. not wanting to hold up group. when i started another character and did CoP again i took my time to really enjoy the story. i think "working" for the gear is half the fun, you get it...then what, its just like every other ff game in that respect, u get all the best materia, complete the sphere grid, etc, then what. you turn of the game and find a new one. i think SE was smart "and" stupid for making things so hard to obtain. it keeps the hardcore player base to keep striving for perfection, we all know they dont make it easy.
i think they have done a good job on terms of jobs, like someone stated before, the job system was absolutely genius. having 1 character for all jobs was smart. we all remember that nin was never supposed to tank, that's another great thing about ffxi. what you can do with the job that was never intended and if all else fails, through a ton of blm @ it lol
all in all, enjoy the CS's/storyline. its one of the main reasons ffxi is so good IMO. cheers
